Last May, the American Bar Association released a new book, Tell the Client’s Story: Mitigation in Criminal and Death Penalty Cases, which serves as a comprehensive, functional reference publication aimed at helping litigators navigate the turbulent waters of the most complicated criminal proceedings. One of the primary ways the book accomplishes this is through a holistic presentation that draws upon contemporary research and the input of numerous legal, social, and psychological professionals.
Harvard Law School faculty member Carol Steiker, who serves as co-director of the school's’ Criminal Justice Policy Program, gave the book high marks in her review. She lauded it as a must-have resource for attorneys who want to use more of a narrative and multifaceted defense strategy in their mitigation efforts.
