The ABA recently observed Law Day 2015 with events in April that celebrated Magna Carta, or the Great Charter of Liberty, and its impact on U.S. and global law. According to the ABA’s president, the Great Charter symbolizes justice and freedom for people around the globe, and Magna Carta’s legal principles remain as relevant as ever. Law Day 2015 featured the theme “Magna Carta: Symbol of Freedom Under Law,” which emphasizes that no one is beyond the law.
In honor of Law Day and the Magna Carta theme, the ABA hosted a number of events to explore the role of Magna Carta in history, its application today, and its enduring impact. The ABA’s Dialogue on Magna Carta event included almost 250 high school students from across the country discussing Magna Carta, while the organization’s Breakfast with High School Teachers event fostered dialogue among educators nationwide. Further, at the ABA’s Leon Jaworski Public Program event, panelists engaged in discussion entitled “The Great Charter: What Makes Magna Carta Mythic?”
